It's mostly for silly fun but it can also be helpful as well. They've also implemented a 'chat sounds' thing where you can type a specific word into the chat interface and it will play a tune for all to hear that are near enough to your character in-game. With the work of several talented individuals in the community, they've implemented a great XP mod which allows you to gain experience points and use them on permanent upgrades/abilities for your character as well as spend money (per map basis) on new and different guns, ammo, etc. I really liked the Misfire servers due to all of the fun extras they had on them. I came across the community a while back shortly after Sven-Coop became a free standalone game on Steam. It has grown over the years while also being able to host Sven-Coop servers for the public to play on. Misfire is the 'leader' of the ChenZen Gaming group/community that started around Sven-Coop like so many others (SnarkCafe anyone?). At first it was to play through the main game with other people together, but has morphed into something far greater than that. What is Sven-Coop and Misfire and WHY? Well, Sven-Coop started off as a co-op mod for Half-Life way back in 1999.
